Oprah speaks up again

Oprah Winfrey is in the news because of her close relationship with friend, Gayle King.  Rumors of homosexuality surface yet again, causing a quick, firm response from Oprah.  “I’m not even kind of lesbian,” she tells Barbara Walters in an up-coming television special.

 

The accusations upset Oprah simply because she’s confronted them before.  Gayle is a close friend, “the friend everybody deserves.”

 

Oprah makes it clear that if she were gay, she would simply say so.  Hiding who she is isn’t in her make-up and isn’t a healthy way for anyone to live.

 

Oprah is wearing the pants for being up-front and open about who she is – or is not.

Irresponsible or Freedom of Speech?

Is Julian Assange wearing the pants?  We all know the name.  It’s been over the news for weeks now.  Assange is the owner of WikiLeaks, the whistleblower web site that leaks confidential information.

 

Some say that the attempt to censor Assange is a breach of freedom of speech.  Some say that he is endangering national security.

 

Where do you stand?

 

Michael Jackson: Hero or Weirdo?

Michael Jackson’s duet with Akon on the single “Hold My Hand” was officially released for download on Monday, and Micheal’s posthumous album, MICHAEL, will be available for sale on December 14th.

Michael is much respected as a musical artist, but lived a life of controversy – from fighting claims of child molestation to accusations regarding his vitiligo, the skin disorder that resulted in the changes in his skin color.

Was Michael Jackson a hero or a weirdo?  We all know he wore the glove, but did he wear the pants?

 

From Dog Ring to Super Bowl Ring?

Michael Vick’s performance with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football was amazing.  He was behind six touchdowns against the Washington Redskins.  His quarterback passer rating is at 115.1, above all others in the NFL.    He has not been intercepted this season and has a total of 15 touchdowns in the six games he’s played.

With stats like that, he has the potential for winning MVP.

But some people cannot see Michael Vick the player without seeing Michael Vick the criminal.

Yes, he’s served his time.  Yes, he has voiced regret for his actions.

But should we forget what he’s done?  Mel doesn’t.

Mel is one of the 47 pit bulls who endured unspeakable horrors while at Bad Newz Kennels, Vick’s interstate dogfighting ring.  These dogs were strangled, drowned, electrocuted.  The females that fought back during mating had their teeth pulled.

Mel is a survivor.  But he is forever changed.  He cowers in the corner.  He does not bark.  Strangers cause him to fall into convulsions.

So while Michael Vick is racing towards success, and possibly a Super Bowl ring, we are left wondering.  Is he a criminal?  Is he a hero?  You decide.

Ivy Bean with met pop singer Peter Andre after confessing on Twitter that she liked his music.

Ivy Bean, the oldest person on Twitter, has passed away early today.  With almost 60,000 followers on Twitter, Ivy had become a bit of a celebrity.  Her tweets were sometimes “cheeky” and she loved fish and chips.  She will be sadly missed in the Twitter community.

Abducted child found alive

It only takes seconds for a child to go missing.  But awareness and action can bring that child home.  Monday night, four-year-old Alisa Maier was abducted from the front yard of her home in Louisiana, Mo.  Her five-year-old brother gave a vague description of the man who ordered her in his car.  Luckily, less than 24 hours later, a loud muffler at a car wash drew the attention of witnesses, who spotted little Alisa.  Police say the child was examined at the hospital before being reunited with her family.
