Don Ritchie, a former life insurance salesman, saves lives.
As former life insurance salesman, Don Ritchie had to broach the difficult subject of death regularly in his job. Yet it was in his personal life that he became well-known for discussing death and the blessings of life. For about 50 years, Don lived in a house across from The Gap, a rocky cliff above Sydney Harbour in Australia. The Gap is where the desperate and lonely go to commit suicide. It is there that they are met by Don, who has been identified as a guardian angel, as he gentle ushers people away from the edge and back to life.

Education is most effective when it’s exciting. The 7th graders at Evergreen Middle School in California definitely had an exciting experience. While participating in the Mars Student Imaging Program at the Mars Space Flight Facility at Arizona State University, Dennis Mitchell’s class discovered a cave on Mars that had previously gone unnoticed by space professionals. The cave is like a skylight in one of the lava tunnels on Mars. I imagine those students are proud of their achievement – as they should be.
